TESTING THE NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR AUTOMATED MONITORING OF POLLINATORS AND POLLINATION

Work packages

SEPPI has five work packages that build upon each other. The protocols developed in WP1 will be tested across environmental gradients at 10 field sites in WP2 and evaluated for their costs in WP3. The findings in WPs 2 and 3 will then lead to the optimization of the protocol in WP1. The sustainable scaling of the protocol (WP4) relies on the first three work packages, as the protocol must be logistically feasible, financially feasible, and scientifically rigorous in order for it to become an EBV in EuropaBON, a Standard Observation in eLTER, and standard methodology for national monitoring programs. The pipelines for processing images to identify pollinators, create data tables, and analyse data for regional trends in pollinators and pollination is the final WP5, which can be developed for 10 sites with a vision of scaling to hundreds.
